ARDS Initiative
Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) is a critical, life-threatening inflammatory lung condition that forms the severe end of the Acute Lung Injury (ALI) spectrum
Background on ARDS
Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) is a life-threatening, inflammatory lung condition representing the most severe form of Acute Lung Injury (ALI). This critical state of respiratory failure triggers sudden, widespread pulmonary inflammation, disrupting normal gas exchange and causing severe hypoxemia (dangerously low blood oxygen levels) that requires immediate intensive care. Rather than a standalone disease, ARDS develops as a complex, secondary response to severe direct or indirect insults. Common underlying triggers include sepsis, pneumonia, trauma, and gastric aspiration. Mechanistically, ARDS damages the alveolar-capillary barrier, increasing its permeability and allowing protein-rich fluid to flood the alveoli. This fluid accumulation inactivates protective lung surfactant, culminating in widespread alveolar collapse. Mastering the intricate cellular pathways of ARDS remains paramount to building the advanced diagnostic tools and targeted therapies needed to save patient lives.
Systems Architecture
The Systems Architecture of ARDS is published as a web based tool open to public . Click below to interact with the Systems Architecture.
Publication
A peer-reviewed paper from the ARDS Initiative will be published for the benefit of community. This phase is in progress.
In Silico Modeling
In this phase, the ARDS initiative will conduct in silico modeling to identify and test the efficacy of natural compounds against the cytokine storm, apoptosis and oxidative stress.
Combination Screening
In this phase, combination screening will be performed to identify potential ingredients/compounds that target the biological process implicated in ARDS pathogenesis. This phase is yet to begin.
Patents
The Open Science Institute™ through its ARDS Initiative is moving towards getting patents for a revolutionary molecule that effectively combats ARDS disease, contributing breakthrough real solutions to society worldwide.
Licensing and Manufacturing
The ARDS Initiative plans to discover, develop, license and manufacture proprietary nutraceuticals to support treatment of ARDS. Support our mission to bring this innovation to those who need it most. Please support this phase by donating to the ARDS Initiative.
